NWA 15583 - Lunar Feldspathic Breccia

NWA 15583 is a Lunar Feldspathic Breccia purchased in 2022 after recovery from Northwest Africa. It is a genuine Moon rock formed from fragmented lunar crust, created through repeated impact events across the lunar surface before a later impact ejected it into space. With a reported mass of 3.4 kg from a single stone, NWA 15583 is a well-documented Lunar meteorite representing ancient feldspar-rich highland material.

NWA 15583 specimens typically show a brecciated texture, with angular lithic clasts and mineral fragments set within a fine-grained, partly glassy matrix. Some clasts are reported to reach up to 2 cm, giving prepared slices and fragments a clear, varied structure. This texture reflects the long impact history of the Moon’s highland crust, where material has been fractured, mixed, shocked, and reassembled over billions of years.

Studying NWA 15583 provides valuable insight into the composition, impact history, and geological evolution of the Lunar Highlands. For collectors, it offers a scarce and visually interesting Lunar meteorite with strong scientific context. Its Feldspathic Breccia classification links it to the Moon’s ancient crust, while its single-stone recovery and limited total mass add to its appeal. Each specimen represents genuine Lunar material, preserving a direct connection to the surface history of our nearest celestial neighbour.
