Tisserlitine 001 - Lunar Feldspathic Breccia

Tisserlitine 001 is a Lunar Feldspathic Breccia found in the Kidal region of Mali, close to the Algerian border, beginning in December 2019. With a reported total mass of 57.41 kg, it is one of the larger Lunar meteorite finds and represents genuine Moon rock from the ancient Lunar Highlands. Its Feldspathic Breccia classification indicates material from the Moon’s pale, feldspar-rich crust, fragmented and reworked by repeated impacts before a later event ejected it into space.

Tisserlitine 001 specimens are typically dark stones with brecciated interiors, containing a mixture of mineral and rock fragments set within a finer Lunar matrix. Published descriptions note its classification as a Lunar Feldspathic Breccia, with some material described as containing phyllosilicate-rich, water-altered assemblages. This unusual alteration history adds scientific interest, as it records not only impact processing on the Moon but also later changes affecting parts of the material.

Studying Tisserlitine 001 provides valuable insight into the composition, impact history, and alteration of the Lunar Highlands. For collectors, it offers a recognised and substantial Lunar meteorite with strong scientific context, good availability compared with smaller Moon rock finds, and clear planetary significance. Each specimen represents genuine material from the Moon, shaped by billions of years of impacts and delivered naturally to Earth.
