Formed over 4.5 billion years ago, they originate from parent bodies that experienced moderate heating, enough to cause recrystallisation and partial melting, but not complete separation into core and mantle. This makes Acapulcoites especially important for understanding how primitive asteroid material began to evolve into more complex planetary structures.

Acapulcoites typically display a fine to medium-grained, recrystallised texture with a mix of silicate minerals and dispersed metallic iron. Unlike Chondrites, they lack visible chondrules, having been altered by thermal processes, yet they still retain a broadly chondritic chemical composition. Their appearance is often grey to brown with subtle variations depending on their history, reflecting a balance between primitive material and early igneous transformation.
