Kaalijarv is an historic Iron meteorite from Estonia, classified as Iron, IAB-MG. It is associated with the famous Kaali crater field on the island of Saaremaa, one of the best-known meteorite impact sites in Europe. Formed over 4.5 billion years ago, Kaalijarv represents ancient iron-nickel material from an early solar system body with a complex formation history involving metal, impact processing, and incomplete differentiation.
Kaalijarv specimens are typically dense, metallic, and naturally weathered, often showing dark oxidised surfaces from long exposure on Earth. Prepared slices may reveal internal metallic structure, including Widmanstätten patterns or related etched textures depending on the specimen and preparation.
