NWA 13187 is a Martian Shergottite purchased in Morocco in 2019, with a reported total known weight of 1.6 kg. As a Shergottite, it represents basaltic igneous material from Mars, formed through volcanic processes before being ejected from the planet by a powerful impact event. Its Martian origin is supported by its classification and mineral chemistry, placing it within one of the main recognised groups of Martian meteorites.

Specimens of NWA 13187 typically show a grey to dark, speckled interior with a diabasic igneous texture. Reported mineralogy includes zoned clinopyroxene and other phases consistent with Martian Shergottites, giving prepared slices and fragments a distinctive crystalline appearance. Some pieces may retain desert-weathered exterior surfaces, while cut faces reveal the internal volcanic structure more clearly.

For collectors, NWA 13187 offers a recognised Martian meteorite with strong scientific interest and relatively limited available material. Its Shergottite classification, 2019 recovery history, and clear Martian context make it appealing for collections focused on planetary meteorites, Mars material, or rare Achondrites. Each specimen represents a genuine piece of Mars, formed by volcanic activity and delivered to Earth after a journey through space.

Important information for all items

How the scales and gridlines work.

Each small square is 1x1mm, and each bold-lined square is 10x10mm, or 1cm² (1 square centimetre).

Imperial measurements.

1 inch is is easy to figure because it is about 25 small squares, which is 2½ bold squares.

The piece shown in the photo on the left (a Gebel Kamil Iron) is about 70mm from left to right, which is about 2¾ inches, and around 60mm (about 2⅓ inches) from top to bottom.
