NWA 14056 is a Diogenite, part of the HED Achondrite family linked to asteroid 4 Vesta. Found in northern Mali in 2020 and purchased in 2021, it represents material from deeper within Vesta’s crust or upper mantle, where minerals crystallised slowly before later impacts excavated and ejected the material into space. Its classification as a Diogenite places it among the more distinctive Vestan meteorites, separate from Eucrites and Howardites.

Specimens of NWA 14056 show visible brecciation, with millimeter-sized angular and subrounded clasts set within a fine-grained yellowish matrix. Some stones retain remnants of fusion crust, while prepared pieces can reveal the contrast between clasts and matrix more clearly. This brecciated texture records a history of impact processing on its parent body, while its Diogenitic composition links it to deeper, slowly cooled Vestan material.

For collectors, NWA 14056 offers a well-documented HED Achondrite with strong visual character and a clear connection to Vesta. Its brecciated texture, recognised classification, and Northwest African provenance make it appealing for collections focused on Achondrites, Vestan meteorites, or planetary material. Each specimen represents ancient asteroid crust or mantle material shaped by impacts over billions of years.

Important information for all items

How the scales and gridlines work.

Each small square is 1x1mm, and each bold-lined square is 10x10mm, or 1cm² (1 square centimetre).

Imperial measurements.

1 inch is is easy to figure because it is about 25 small squares, which is 2½ bold squares.

The piece shown in the photo on the left (a Gebel Kamil Iron) is about 70mm from left to right, which is about 2¾ inches, and around 60mm (about 2⅓ inches) from top to bottom.
