NWA 7831 is a Diogenite, part of the HED Achondrite family strongly linked to asteroid 4 Vesta. It was found in 2013 near Chouichiyat in Saguia el Hamra, Western Sahara, as a single large mass of at least 20 kg, much of which fragmented during excavation. As a Diogenite, it represents material from deeper within Vesta’s crust or upper mantle, where minerals crystallised slowly before later impacts excavated and ejected the material into space.

Specimens of NWA 7831 are known for their yellow-green crystalline material, often with pale orange weathering products along fractures. Prepared pieces can show a coarse, crystalline texture typical of Diogenites, dominated by orthopyroxene-rich material. Some fragments may retain weathered exterior surfaces, while cut faces reveal the mineral structure more clearly. Its colour and texture give it a distinctive appearance compared with many darker HED meteorites.

For collectors, NWA 7831 offers a visually interesting and well-documented Diogenite with a clear Vestan connection. Its large recovered mass, distinctive greenish crystalline appearance, and recognised classification make it appealing for collections focused on HED meteorites, Achondrites, or asteroid 4 Vesta material. Each specimen represents ancient slowly cooled asteroid material, later shaped by impact events and delivered to Earth.

Important information for all items

How the scales and gridlines work.

Each small square is 1x1mm, and each bold-lined square is 10x10mm, or 1cm² (1 square centimetre).

Imperial measurements.

1 inch is is easy to figure because it is about 25 small squares, which is 2½ bold squares.

The piece shown in the photo on the left (a Gebel Kamil Iron) is about 70mm from left to right, which is about 2¾ inches, and around 60mm (about 2⅓ inches) from top to bottom.
