Sericho - Pallasite PMG
Sericho is a well-known Pallasite meteorite from Kenya, first recognised by the meteorite community after large masses were recovered near Habaswein and Sericho in 2016. Classified as a Main Group Pallasite, it is a Stony-Iron meteorite composed of iron-nickel metal and olivine crystals. Like other Pallasites, Sericho represents material linked to the boundary between metallic and silicate regions inside an early differentiated asteroid, formed over 4.5 billion years ago.
Sericho specimens are valued for their attractive mixture of metal and olivine. When cut and polished, the olivine crystals can range from golden yellow to green, often contrasting strongly against the metallic matrix. Some pieces show translucent crystals suitable for backlit display, while others preserve natural exterior texture or weathered surfaces from their time on Earth. As with all Pallasites, each specimen varies in crystal size, distribution, and overall pattern.
Studying Sericho provides insight into Stony-Iron meteorite formation and the interaction between metallic and silicate material inside early planetary bodies. For collectors, it offers a visually striking and accessible example of a Pallasite with recognised provenance and strong display appeal. Each specimen represents ancient asteroid material preserved in one of the most distinctive and beautiful meteorite structures.
